Experiences of Cross-Cultural Kids

[ Our Shared Lives ]

While we can learn about Cross-Cultural Kids from books and studies written about their lives, we can understand their firsthand experiences, thoughts, and feelings, by hearing their stories directly. Tanya Crossman, the author of Misunderstood, wrote, “Sharing stories builds intimacy and community.” Storytelling can build connections between the storyteller and people who can relate as well as people who may not relate but receive insights from a perspective they might not have previously considered. Exposing ourselves to stories from diverse people can help normalize CCK experiences and become more open-minded and accepting of all people from different backgrounds.

Even though you and I may have different experiences and lives from each other, we can be more alike than you may believe. Keeping this in mind, we can find ways to become connected through understanding each other’s stories.
